Carly Cusick grew up outside of Cleveland, Ohio, where she started dancing tap, jazz, ballet, and modern at a young age. She continued dancing through high school and college, and graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Dance Education in 2008. After college, she moved to Raleigh where she began teaching with Expressions of Worship Dance Studio and performing with Blank Slate Dance Company.
Carly then began studying and teaching social Ballroom and Latin dancing--first at Planet Ballroom in Charlotte, NC, and then at Bayou Dance Club in Tampa, FL. Carly made her way back to Raleigh early in 2016, where she began teaching and dancing with Mambo Dinamico Dance Company, joining the Pro-Team in 2017. Throughout this time, she began teaching at Retirement Communities and Memory Care Centers, and eventually became an ACE-certified Group Fitness Instructor, specializing in Senior Fitness and Functional Aging Group Fitness.
In 2017, Carly founded Cultivate Dance.
Today, as the owner and director of Cultivate Dance, she teaches private lessons as well as small group lessons, and directs Cultivate Dance Team, a student group that began performing in 2019.
The mission of Cultivate Dance is to encourage growth and development through dance, and to inspire people of all ages and abilities to enjoy dancing.
"I believe that dancing is one of the best and most important things that people can do for themselves. It taps into not just the physical, but also the emotional, intellectual, and social dimensions of well-being. I aspire to bring dancing into the lives (and often BACK into the lives) of as many people as I can, to keep people dancing and moving for as long as they are able, and to help people experience joy through movement."
